We live in a diverse country with bounds of coastlines and inland waterways making the UK a prime destination for numerous water sports from kite surfing to gorge walking, surfing to banana boat rides and kayaking to white water rafting! Whether you’re looking to head north or slip south here is a short guide to some hot spots and why water sports should be on every Stag itinerary.
Let’s start with perhaps the most typical choice – Body Boarding in Newquay. We’ve teamed up with Newquay Activity Centre who really know their stuff! They’ll soon see you riding the waves – once thought of a sport purely for Children but no; an honestly amazing sport. Perfect for a Stag Group of all abilities – surfing can be hard to grasp but bodyboarding, even your clumsiest of mates could handle!
Now let’s head inland and to sunny Wales, the UK is home to some fantastic rivers perfect for White Water Rafting. It’s amongst the belief of many that to get the same standard as the desired Alpine delights you have to head to Northern Scotland – but Wales really does have some gems and easily accessed from Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. The River Dee and Cowny are just a couple of examples – our friends at White Water Active based in Llangollen will show you an amazing, adrenalin-fuelled time and really make his send-off one to remember! You’ll be bumbling down the river at a leisurely pace to all of sudden hit a rapid that will get you all working to ensure the Stag doesn’t accidentally fall overboard – don’t write it off, it’s certainly possible – and can be arranged!
A phenomenon of the last 10 years is Stand up paddle boarding ,– SUP’ing. This relaxing and tranquil sport is a great way to get out on the water without plunging head first into the drink (possibly). Our recommendation for this is in Richmond, take a paddle down the Thames and see the sights from a completely different view. Your instructor will meet you on the riverside and teach you all the basics before you embark on your suburban adventure.
Our last stop takes us to Reading and to Hi5 Leisure. The Team there are situated at a wakeboarding and water skiing lake but by far one of our favourite activity is Banana Boats and Ringo’s . The Freedom Team mothered quite a spectacular hangover on a summer’s morning at this lake – and what a way! After you’ve wetsuit’ed up and had a quick safety brief you’ll take your position on board the inflatable crafts and be driven high speed around the lake. Do try to stay on.
Please think about water sports and what we have close to home, don’t write it off as really everyone can get involved.
Go for the hassle-free option, don't waste hours planning, only to end up with a full-time job sorting out payments from guys you might not know to suppliers you have never used before. That's our job, you simply pick the best activities / accommodation and leave us to get it sorted. Then sit back and take all the credit.
